ESCAPING FROM THE TRAP OF THE MIND Introduction: Have you ever experienced the instances when you know what God tell you to think and perceive the matter of the world but cannot do so as the Bible say? For instance, once I was angry with my wife for some little thing. At that time, I knew I should forgive her. I knew that it is no good to be angry for a long time and for that small matter. But I knew it was wrong for me to think badly of her but I couldnˉt escape from the trap of the mind in angrying her. How can I get rid of that? Take for another example, you know that you shouldnˇt be sad or depressed for a certain things because God knows it and cares. You know that but you are still depressed and be unhappy. How can we get rid of the trap ? How can I apply the Bible to my everydaylife? The key points to note: Our mind is full of many voices, many complex voices influencing our life. It is like entering a hall with many little children that are shouting and so you can hardly be peaceful with that. How can we handle with that moment? Voices in our mind are roughly divided into two types: Godly and worldly voices(Rome 7:23). We often give our attention to the worldly voices that we often neglect the Godly ones. For instances, when I am angry with my wife, my inner voices would repeat and repeat the things happened, how my wife treated me badly, how the things can become better if she did better, what should she do........etc. My mind would be full of that kind of voices. Many bad points towards my wife are created. And I pay much attention to those voices also(Rome 8:7). It is actually our own responsibility to make ourselves deep down into the trap. So, many people like to think over and over again of their bad situation, many cannot forget the sins of others, many are jealous all the time, many like to pursue money all the time,.........We tend to think and dwell into the trap of the worldly mind. Our focus is wrong . It is just like planting some seeds into the soil. The more you dwell into a certain voice, the more you cultivate the plant. After a long time. The plant would be so rooted into the soil that you canˉt get the plant out of the soil. So, your mind would be polluted by the sinful voices. Therefor, if we are in misery, self-pity is sin!! If we are mistreated, angrying with others for a long time is a sin!! .......etc. So, the solution is clear:
But donˉt misunderstand: It is not to advocate to forget all the things happened in the world. It is intended to encourage you to let the mind dwelling the Godly voices at most of the time of the day. Donˉt let the mind dwelling on the sinful voices when our mind is so unguarded when we are working in the day. But we should bring the matter again when we come to God in solitude(Psalm 22:1). At that time, our mind would be well guarded. Our energy would be fully charged at that time so we can deal with those dirty voices one by one by the powerful word of God(Eph 6:17). At that time, we have the spiritual sword in our hand. We can evaluate what our mind think and meditate what Jesus think if he is in the same situation. We can use the Holy sword to fight the dirty voices one by one. On the other hand, if we bring the matter over and over again in our mind when we are unguarded in the noisy and disturbing environment, it is easy to be won and mastered by the dirty voices. Certain Godly things worthy to be dwell on all day long: I suggest you to FORCE yourselves always to think the following things so that the attention is shifted not into the pagan voices but in the Godly voices. In this regard, we are like planting a Godly tree in our garden of our mind. Our mind would be accustomed to think in a Godly way. The fruits would be produced shortly afterwards: (Psalm 1:2,3).
So, a short conclusion: It is a battle . It needs much effort and energy to calm down a class with so many naughty boys. But it worths because it pleases God and gain eternal reward. To make it short and clear, the following points are cited again.
